During the Gem Dandy Tour, students will learn all about gem mining and nature’s precious stones. Discussion will cover stone and rock formation and classification, the difference between a gem and a fossil, and the worldwide impact of these minerals and North Carolina’s rich gold history. Participants will venture to PayDirt Pete’s Treasure Mine, where they’ll get to shake and sift the mining rough in their sluice box and let the water uncover their own treasure.
